Isle of Capri 03/27/2024

Today we had a much anticipated trip to the Isle of Capri.  We had a long walk down to the Port of Sorrento to catch a  ferryboat to Capri. Part of this trek was to use an elevator to descend to the shore.  The cost was 7 euros for the using the lift. I had 7 euros in coins to use for that. As we were walking down to the lift, a taxi stopped and wanted to know if we wanted a ride to the port.  I asked how much, he said 10 euros.  I said how about 7 euros?  He said OK.  We loaded our bags in his van and we were at the port in short order.

We boarded the ferry for a 25 minute ride to Capri. The boat was new, well kept, and plush.  The weather was good, and the seas were calm.  A pleasant journey.  Upon arriving on the Isle, we stored our luggage and took the funicular to the top of Capri.  The views were stunning, to say the least.  So much shopping, so little time.  While Linda and the girls went shopping, I found a bench overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.  Riley sat with me.  I had her put up her cell phone and we talked to each other.  A very pleasant interlude.  It was a moment to cherish.

When the shopping was over, we went back down to the Port, retreivied our luggage and boarded another ferryboat for the Port of Naples.  This was a highspeed boat and the trip took a little over an hour.

When we docked in Naples, we took a taxi to the train terminal.  I cannot begin to explain the taxi ride, other than to say it was one of the most exilerating adventures I can recall taking.  The traffic in Naples is called pleasurable chaos.  Our driver drove like a demon.  Riley and Beth were in the back of the van, enjoying the ride.  They were having a ball and sounded like they were on Space Mountain at Disney World.  I was in front and felt like I was safer when flying combat helicopters in Vietnam.  To be truthful, I felt our driver was crazy.  I think we sideswiped one car.  The driver said "no problem", pulled in his mirror, and forged ahead.

When we arrived at the station, we had a lunch of Napoli pizza.  Naples is the birth place of pizza.  We headed back to Rome.  Courtney and Beth cooked dinner for everyone.  They cooked Fettuccine Alfredo using a Roman recipe.  Home cooked pasta, with an Italian flair.  Very good.  Afterwards Riley and Ethan cleaned the kitchen.  A good ending to a very adventurous day.
